Ep 44: Google Ads is Ending Smart ShoppingFeb 16, 2022
Google recently announced the end of Smart Shopping Campaigns. That's what we're going to talk about today on Marketing In 10.
Hey, everybody. This is Jim Lastinger. Welcome to another episode of Marketing In 10. So today, we're going to talk about Google's Smart Shopping Campaigns.
So Google Ads recently made some waves when they announced that they're going to be the ending Smart Shopping Campaigns, and they're going to roll that functionality into their new Performance Max platform. So I'm going to talk a little bit about what I've seen so far.
As I've talked about many times, Smart Shopping Campaigns are one of my favorite types of campaigns in Google Ads. They are definitely the best way for e-commerce companies to sell their products. Essentially, they are product listing ads where you create a feed of product data, upload that to Google Merchant Center. And then the Smart Shopping Campaign takes that data and shows your products to users using relevant searches.
Now, those are going to be going away and rolled into Performance Max Campaigns. Performance Max Campaigns are intended to be a one-stop shop campaign that will show your ads on the entire product inventory for Google, so all the different Google properties and all the different possible ad locations. So I'll put a link to this in the show notes, but here are the highlights from their announcement. So you'll be able to start transitioning your existing Smart Shopping Campaigns to Performance Max starting in April. Those existing Smart Shopping Campaigns will all automatically be changed to Performance Max in July. And that's really all we have so far. So these timelines are definitely subject to change.
So stay tuned for any updates. That's all we know so far about the transition, but I'll be watching this for sure since I rely on it quite heavily. I'll keep watching this and report back to you with any news.
